Chess Game

Sasha Shariff (left) and Ethan Lee (above) were leading the points tables in their
respective categories at the Guyana Chess Federation’s third Grand Prix, which ends today. Number one contender Taffin Khan (right) did not play in this tournament since his place is almost already assured for the Olympiad, having won two previous tournaments. The series of Grands Prix are held to determine the entrants for the biennial Olympiad. Four
tournaments are held in the series, and the three highest scores are tabulated. This
format was designed to give everyone a fair chance at qualification. The final tournament will be held in June.
