Guyana’s next generation of cricketers, the National U-15 team, departed these shores yesterday for Antigua and Barbuda, where they will compete for top honours in the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Rising Stars 50-Over title, which bowls off tomorrow.
The Guyanese lads, who are led by Adrian Hetmyer with Emmanuel Lewis as his deputy, will take on Barbados in their opening encounter.
Prior to their departure, the team underwent a 12-day encampment at the Guyana Cricket Board’s (GCB) LBI facility on the East Coast of Demerara. During their encampment, the team went through rigorous sessions designed to improve their skill sets ahead of the competition.
At the end of the camp, the squad played two competitive 50-over practice games, which were highlighted by a couple of brilliant individual performances.
Guyana will mount their title challenge against Barbados at the Liberta Ground in round one, followed by Trinidad and Tobago on Thursday (March 28) at the Coolidge Cricket Ground.
Rounds 3 and 4 will be played at Bethesda on March 30 and April 1, respectively, and will see the Guyanese lads battle against Jamaica and the Windward Islands.
Liberta will host the Round Five game as the Guyanese take on the Leeward Islands. All matches are set to bowl off at 9:30 a.m. each day.
