Casmero Cyril Juan, a 26-year-old from Boa Vista, Brazil, who was involved in a fatal accident on Friday 22nd March, 2024 on Barrack Retreat Public Road, Lethem Commercial Zone appeared yesterday before Magistrate Omadatt Chandan at the Lethem Magistrate’s Court, where he pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and other offences.
The police yesterday said that pedestrian Shamell Lindie, a 48-year-old from Culvert City, Lethem Central, died in the accident after she was struck down by the pickup vehicle driven by Juan.
He was also charged with driving under the influence, failing to stop after an accident, failing to render assistance after an accident and taking a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent, among others.
He was remanded to prison and the case was postponed to 16 April 2024 for sentencing.
