NSC congratulates Omari Glasgow on historic CONCACAF awards

The National Sports Commission (NSC) congratulated Golden Jaguars international Omari Glasgow on his historic achievement in being awarded the 2023/2024 CONCACAF Nations League Top Scorer and Best Young Player accolades.

This was disclosed by an official release from the entity.

Glasgow, 20, who in Saudi Arabia with the national team playing in the FIFA Series, tallied seven goals in five matches during Guyana’s unbeaten campaign in League B of the Nations League. The aforesaid resulted in Guyana securing promotion to League A for the first time in their history.

Glasgow, who plies his trade with Chicago Fire II in the MLS Next Pro League, became the first Guyanese to win a CONCACAF Nations League Top Scorer accolade. He is also the first ever winner of the Best Young Player award, in the process becoming the first individual to win multiple awards in the event.

Director of Sport Steve Ninvalle said, “The NSC, and by extension, the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sport and Government of Guyana wish to extend congratulations to Omari Glasgow for his extraordinary achievements on the international stage in the CONCACAF Nations League. His feats, though aided by an overall collective effort and responsibility, highlight what can be realised and attained in a developing and advancing sports culture and environment.”

He further stated, “On the individual side, his accomplishments speak to the perseverance and commitment that are hallmarks of successful athletes—elements that have stood the test of time as universal benchmarks. More importantly, his attainment and overall story serve as an inspiration for burgeoning talents on the possibilities that can be obtained within a structured and conducive environment.
