Dear Editor,
In 2009, Mr. Julius of Julius Variety Store, located at 135 Regent Street, Georgetown, was probably an excellent business person, considerate and fair. Not so today.
On March 15, 2024, I went into his store to make a purchase. I asked for the right side of a size 21 slippers which was on display. The slipper was taken out of the glass case and added to a bag. On my way to the cashier, I saw a toy Mr. Pencil. This toy was added to the purchase. I waited almost seven minutes to collect the items. Hands filled and in a hurry to catch Bounty Supermarket, I headed out of the store with the items, and the receipt and change tucked into my back pocket. When I got home, thinking the purchase to be a safe one, and observing the torn state of the receipt, I proceeded to dump the receipt into the bin.
On March 16, I tried on the slippers, and to my dismay the right side was a size 23. I immediately called the store, and was informed that “the boss was not there”.
On March 22, I visited the store and was informed that the matching size was not available. I asked for my money back.
Mr. Julius, perhaps not deserving of any respect at this point, was loud, arrogant and impolite, refusing to give the refund.
I wish to ask any person involved in business via this medium, a professional, a lawyer, anyone: what is the solution to this problem? Clearly I cannot wear the mismatched slippers, but Mr. Julius has received and enjoyed my $1,500.
A picture of the slippers is attached.
Yours faithfully,
Ayanna George
