Angoy’s Avenue fire destroys two houses, eleven homeless

The building was completely destroyed

A fire suspected to be electrical in origin destroyed two houses located in the same yard in Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, leaving an extended family of eleven, five of whom are children, homeless.

Rudolph Majeed, 49, a carpenter who lived with his wife, son, daughter-in-law, and three grandchildren at their home located on Timmers Dam, relayed that on Wednesday morning he got up and headed down to his hammock after which he suddenly heard something burning like “dry grass” and upon checking he noticed the upper flat of his house in flames.

According to Majeed he immediately alerted his family and then attempted to battle the fire with buckets of water “but the fire couldn’t out, it run so fast, so fast, all the sofa all catch a fire.”
