Guyana will battle France today in the semi-final round after ending their group campaign in the Indoor Hockey Masters World Cup with a perfect 3-0 record in the over-45 division, following contrasting wins against Wales and England yesterday and Friday, respectively.
Staged at the David Ross Sports Village on the University of Nottingham Campus, Guyana defeated Wales 6-5 yesterday in their final group stage encounter to seal their date with the French.
Alan Fernandes bagged a brace in the 19th and 31st minutes, while Ian Nicholson, Devin Hooper, Dwayne Scott, and Jerazeno Bell scored in the 14th, 17th, 18th, and 40th minutes, respectively.
For the loser, Dan Makaruk tallied a double in the 24th and 35th minutes, while Greg Laurenson, Mark Bromley, and Matt Stollery scored in the 10th, 20th, and 22nd minutes, respectively.
Meanwhile, Guyana dismissed England 7-4 on Friday at the same venue.
Bell recorded a helmet trick in the 10th, 12th, 31st, and 38th minutes, while Devin Munroe bagged a brace in the ninth and 18th minutes. Adding a conversion in the 11th minute was Scott. For the loser, Jon Cooper, Dan Fox, Andy Langlands, and Titch Hanspal scored in the 14th, 25th, 35th, and 40th minutes apiece.
