Police are investigating a suspected boat mishap that may have resulted in the death of Ivan Braithwaite on Thursday between 16.30 and 18.30 hours in Kabakaburi, Upper Pomeroon River, Region Two.
Investigations have so far revealed that Braithwaite left home in his canoe to purchase some items from a shop and did not return home. Instead, his canoe was seen drifting in the river with the items he bought inside.
According to the police, a report was made at the Charity Police Station, and a search commenced but proved futile. However, around 06.00 hours on Friday, Braithwaite’s body was seen floating face down by his son-in-law, Paul Rodrigues, a 48-year-old farmer of Kabakaburi, Upper Pomeroon River.
The body was examined, and no marks of violence were seen. Braithwaite was officially pronounced dead at the Charity Hospital and his body taken to the Charity Hospital mortuary where it awaits a post mortem examination.
