Undefeated Guyana will face off against England for glory in the Over-45 final

Undefeated Guyana will battle England in the finale of the Over-45 division in the Indoor Hockey Masters World Cup, following a 3-2 semi-final victory against France yesterday at the David Ross Sports Village on the University of Nottingham Campus.

It was Guyana’s fifth consecutive win in the event. Alan Fernandes broke the deadlock as he etched his name on the scorer’s sheet in the 16th minute. Jerazeno Bell then doubled Guyana’s advantage via an 18th-minute conversion.

Bell then made his presence felt once more, as he found the back of the net two minutes later to push the score to 3-0. However, the French responded in the form of Damien De Clerc, who etched his name on the scorer’s sheet in the 22nd minute.

De Clerc further reduced the deficit to 2-3 as he secured his double with a 25th-minute strike. However, any hopes of a comeback were extinguished as the Guyanese rearguard denied the French for the remainder of the contest to secure the victory.

With the win, Guyana will now face off against England in a rematch from the group stage, which was won 7-4 by the former. Meanwhile, England defeated Germany 6-4 in the second semi-final fixture.

Andy Langlands amassed a hat-trick in the 24th, 37th, and 39th minutes, while Titch Hanspal tallied a double in the fifth and 28th minutes. Adding a goal to the score in the 22nd minute was Tim Johnson.

For the loser, Philipp Wedeward amassed a brace in the 33rd and 37th minutes, while Christian Kosling and Benjamin Kruse netted in the first and 30th minutes apiece.
