Following an urgent medevac request, the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) yesterday successfully conducted a medical evacuation for a female resident of Kurutuku, Cuyuni-Mazaruni who required immediate medical attention.
A release from the GDF said that the extremely low water levels made travel by water challenging to the nearest health facility, which would’ve taken about two to three days under the current river condition in that area. As a result, the GDF was contacted for assistance.
Helicopter 8R-MIA was dispatch-ed from Timehri to the Kurutuku area. The helicopter arrived at Base Camp Ayanganna at 13:05 hrs, where a GDF ambulance was already on standby. The patient was then transferred to the ambulance and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital for the necessary medical treatment.
