Shammy Edwards and Ken Summer appeared yesterday before Magistrate Michelle Matthias at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court in relation to the offence of trafficking 5.994 kgs of cannabis.
A release from the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) said that Edwards pleaded guilty and was released by the Magistrate on his own recognizance pending a probation report and sentencing, whilst Sumner pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of $200,000.
On March 30, CANU officers conducted an operation at a residence in Fort Ordnance village, East Berbice-Corentyne and found marijuana.
A search of the premises led to the discovery of several bulky parcels of suspected cannabis concealed in a freezer. Edwards and Sumner were arrested.
