Dear Editor,
It is commendable the work the government is doing to push infrastructure work in the Independence Boulevard, but this must be met with improving the standard of living of the citizens.
I wish to share my experience with my recent stay with my family in the area above. We were greeted by loud music as early as 5am in the morning and through the night past 12 midnight almost every day. This music is so loud you cannot hear yourself in your own home. One evening it was so bad my daughter started crying because she was having an ear pain a few weeks ago. I personally called every single police station in Georgetown, not one of them picked up the phone for over two hours. I finally got through to Brickdam and the officer said he would send a patrol.
I anticipated the police coming to give us some ease. To my surprise the police van passed around like an hour after, the officer came out and gave one of the perpetrators a fist pump and life continued as usual. This situation quickly reminded me as Guyana develops nothing really changes other than seeing new roads and buildings. You should see the procession of young motorbike riders throughout the evenings. It is not even safe for you to sit in the walkway. It is really a sad state while the politicians celebrate development.
Sincerely,
S. James
