A security guard who told the police he was ‘trying a hustle’ will soon face the court on a charge of trafficking in marijuana while another man will also be charged with possession of a small amount of the said drug he said was for his personal use.
According to a release from the Guyana Police Force, ranks from West Berbice arrested the security guard, Eon Williams, after he was found in possession of 2,385 grammes of suspected marijuana during a roadblock operation conducted at Weldaad at around 5 pm on Wednesday.
Also arrested was Haiasi Saul with 43 grammes of marijuana.
The release disclosed that during the exercise, a motor car with the licence plate HD 1785 travelling towards Georgetown was stopped at the roadblock. The officers requested to search the vehicle, the driver and its occupants. The occupants were asked to exit the vehicle, along with their belongings and they complied.
A bag belonging to Williams, 29, employed by Atlas Security Service, was searched and police discovered a large parcel wrapped in transparent plastic, suspected to contain 2,385 grammes of suspected cannabis.
“Williams was informed of the offence, arrested, and cautioned. He admitted to owning the drug and stated that he was ‘trying a hustle’,” the release said.
A bag belonging to Saul, a 21-year-old construction worker from Stanleytown, New Amster-dam, was also searched, and police found a transparent plastic parcel inside which contained 43 grammes of suspected cannabis. He was also informed of the offence, arrested, and cautioned. He admitted to owning the drug and claimed it was for personal use.
Both men remain in custody and are expected to be charged shortly.
