Club 45 won the Santos 60th Anniversary Masters Football Tournament, defeating Linden 4-1 on Friday evening at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.
Quincy McDonald, the tournament’s eventual most valuable player awardee, led from the front with a brace. Adding one goal apiece were David Britton and Sherwin Pinder.
For the loser, Garfield Shepherd was on target. Due to the outcome, Club 45 pocketed the championship trophy and $100,000, while Linden collected $50,000 and the corresponding accolade.
In the third-place playoff, Pele Masters (USA) defeated Santos 5-4 on penalty kicks after regulation ended 2-2. As a result, Pele Masters pocketed $30,000 and the corresponding trophy, while Santos received $20,000 and the respective accolade.
Meanwhile, on the individual side of the presentation, Jermaine Brown and George Mingle of Club 45 copped the Best Goalkeeper and Best Defender accolades, respectively. On the other hand, Wesley Charles of Pele Masters (USA) walked away with the Best Midfielder title.
The other teams that competed in the tournament were the Guyana Defence Force, West Side Masters, Pele, and Beacons.
