Mahaica Determinators and Beterverwagting (BV)/Triumph secured semi-final berths in the Easter Cup Football Championship following contrasting quarter-final victories on Friday evening.
Staged at the Golden Grove Community Ground, Mahaica crushed the home team, the Golden Stars, by a 3-0 score.
Kevin Sherwood commenced the rout via a 17th-minute conversion. The score-line then ballooned to 2-0 as Sherwood made his presence felt once more, scoring his brace in the 37th minute.
Nicholas Daw completed the lopsided encounter as he scored in the 70th minute. On the other hand, BV/Triumph overcame a one-goal first-half deficit to defeat Buxton Stars 2-1.
The Buxtonians seized the initial lead as Neil Hutson found the back of the net from the penalty spot. However, two goals in the space of nine minutes in the second period secured the come-from-behind win.
Devon Griffith restored parity to proceedings as he etched his name on the scorer’s sheet in the 51st minute. The comeback win was then sealed in the 60th minute as Tony Ogle made his presence felt with a powerful strike.
