The Upper Mazaruni District Hospital has performed its first major surgical procedure in its newly constructed surgical theatre in Kamarang.
The government and the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) are said to have invested approximately $50 million in the construction and furnishing of the operating theatre, which has now become an essential addition to the hospital’s medical facilities, a Department of Public Information (DPI) release stated yesterday.
It added that the operation was made possible through a surgical outreach program organised by the Ministry of Health, utilising the newly constructed surgical theatre in Kamarang.
According to the release, so far, eight successful surgical procedures have been conducted on residents from Kamarang and surrounding villages.
Director General within the Ministry of Health, Dr Vishwa Mahadeo and Hinterland Coordinator, Michael Gouveia are currently on the ground in Kamarang.
