In the battle of the unbeaten teams, defending champion, the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), disarmed their fierce rival, the Guyana Police Force (GPF), 5-2 on Saturday evening in the KFC Elite League.
Staged at the National Training Centre in Providence, the army unit overcame a concession in the first minute from Kevin Layne to secure a 3-1 halftime advantage. Chris Macey restored parity to proceedings in the 23rd minute before Olvis Mitchell handed GDF the 2-1 advantage with a 33rd-minute conversion.
The first half comeback was then sealed in the 44th minute, as Ian Dooker found the back of the net. Neron Barrow eventually reduced the deficit in the 54th minute for the lawmen.
However, Ryan Hackett restored GDF’s lead with a 72nd-minute effort. The result was then sealed in the 90th minute, as Macey completed his brace.
The tournament continues tomorrow at the same venue with another round of matches.
