GDF crush the Ace Warriors by nine wickets

The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) crushed Ace Warriors in a 9-wicket win at the Queen’s College Ground yesterday when the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) 2-Day 2nd Division Championship resumed.

After being inserted to bat by the Warriors on Saturday, the army men posted 266/9 declared in their first innings, led by opener Rockael Reddy’s 90-ball 84 (4sx12, 6sx3) and Keith Simpson’s 67 (66 balls, 4sx8, 6sx3). For the Ace Warriors, Trevon Boston led the way with 3-28 (4 overs), while Junior Phillips had 3-37 (8 overs).

In reply, the Ace Warriors collapsed spectacularly to be bowled out for a paltry 78. Only Damana Thomas (16), Navindra Ramnauth (16), and Robert Davis (10 not out) managed double-digit scores as Keith Simpson ran riot with 6-27 (8 overs).

The Warriors were then made to follow on yesterday on day two and mustered 216 all out, setting GDF a paltry target of just 28 to win. This time around, the Warriors were led by a fighting 54 from Rawle Enmore, who was supported by Ramnauth (23), Nkosi Whyte (24), and Emanuel Martin (23).

Doing the damage for the soldiers was Leon Andrews, who took 3-50 (10 overs), and Simpson, who managed 2-33 in 6.4 overs.

In response, GDF successfully overhauled the target, losing Zameer Nazeer (2) in the process, as Leon Andrew (14) and Hakeem David (15) guided their side home.
