Members of the Providence community were elected by way of a democratic process on Saturday last, to form a management committee for the Providence Police Station.
According to a police press release, the commit-tee, which is made up of dedicated individuals, was formed to promote community involvement and collaboration.
The release listed the committee executive as Jaigopaul, Chairman; Jean Roberts, Vice Chairman; Ms Liverpool, Secretary; Peter Assing, Treasurer; and Dr Seepersaud, Assistant Secretary Trea-surer. Amar Ram will serve as the Public Relations Officer. Other committee members are Roy Mookram, Suresh Jagdeo, Renike Fraser, Mahendra Mookram, and Afori Winter.
The police press release stated that during the inaugural meeting, Super-intendent Ramana and Commander Regional Division 4B encouraged the new committee mem-bers to work together effectively to achieve their objectives in accordance with Standing Order #105. Several stakeholders, including a senior childcare officer, religious leaders, the founder of the Community of Hope Foundation, the chairman of Little Diamond/ Herstelling NDC, and the president of the East Bank Demerara Cricket Board, have pledged their support to the committee.
To familiarize the committee members with the operations of the Providence Police Station, Sergeant 20404 Griffith gave them a tour of the various departments. They also interacted with youth groups who were engaged in an agriculture project at the time and even had the opportunity to collect produce, the release said.
With this new manage-ment committee in place, the Providence Police Station is poised to strengthen its bond with the community and enhance the overall safety and well-being of residents in the region, the release said.
