A nine-member Guyana Defence Force (GDF) team led by Major Mwana McDonald is currently in Saint Lucia attending the Regional Security System (RSS) Unity Exercise 2024 (UNEX 24).
The team is working alongside ranks from eight participating nations and is engaged in a series of scenario based training exercises, a release from the GDF said yesterday.
The activity is being co-funded by the RSS and the European Union (EU) mission to Barbados, the Eastern Caribbeans, the OECS, Caricom & Cariforum, by means of the 11th European Development Fund, in collaboration with the government of St. Lucia.
The RSS was created out of a need for a collective response to security threats which were impacting on the stability of the region in the early 1970’s and 1980’s. Guyana joined it in 2022.
