Mark Anthony Young, of Lot 183 East La Penitence, Georgetown, appeared before Magistrate Clive Nurse at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday where he was charged with simple larceny.
It was alleged that on April 5, at Regent Street, Georgetown, he stole one Apple iPhone 11 Pro Max, valued $200,000, and two gold chains valued $420,000, for a total value of $620,000, belonging to Saskia Corwin.
Young pled not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor objected to bail on the grounds of the seriousness of the offence, while revealing that Young was previously charged for a matter similar in nature. Further, when he was arrested, the stolen phone was discovered to be in his possession and he gave no fixed place of abode when apprehended by police.
However, Young’s attorney told the magistrate that his client is not a flight risk and will abide by any conditions if granted bail.
After considering all the facts, the magistrate refused bail and remanded Young to prison until May 24.
