Rophro Peters, a 27-year-old pastry maker of Lot 301 Middle Road, East La Penitence, Georgetown, appeared before Magistrate Clive Nurse at the George-town Magistrate’s Court yesterday charged with robbery with violence.
It was alleged that on April 8, at Croal Street, Georgetown, while in the company of other, she robbed Victor Daniels of two gold bands valued $235,000, immediately after which she used violence against him.
Peters pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Her attorney told the magistrate that the issue stemmed from a bus ride where a scuffle ensued between the defendant and victim, but she did not steal his jewellery.
However, the prosecutor told the magistrate that the information given in court as it related to the incident being initiated inside of a bus, was not told to investigating ranks.
He also told the magistrate that the penalty for offences of this nature is five years, and the objection to bail was on these grounds, considering the seriousness and gravity of the offence.
The magistrate granted bail in sum of $75,000 and the matter was adjourned to May 24.
