Chase, Dolphin, East Ruimveldt march into quarterfinal segment

Chase Academy, Dolphin Secondary, and East Ruimveldt secured quarterfinal berths following wins in the round of 16 segment when the Milo Secondary Schools U-18 Football Championship continued yesterday at the Ministry of Education (MOE) ground, Carifesta Avenue.

Chase Academy schooled Bishops High 11-0. Omar Sam led the rout with a helmet trick in the 16th, 28th, 43rd, and 56th minutes, while Neeiaz Baksh netted a brace in the 12th and 20th minutes, and Justin Alcindor tallied a double in the 50th and 57th minutes.

Adding one goal apiece were Diquan Samuels, Mark Glasgow, and Shaquan David. Similarly, Dolphin battered Queen’s College 6-0. Ezekiel David bagged a brace in the sixth and 34th minutes, while Kellon Alleyne, Shaquille Dalrymple, Brian Brower, and Gerry Burnett netted in the 35th, 60th, 64th, and 67th minutes, respectively.

On the other hand, East Ruimveldt edged South Ruimveldt 3-0 on penalty kicks after regulation time ended 1-1. Prior to the aforesaid conclusion, East Ruimveldt opened the scoring in the 50th minute, only for South Ruimveldt to equalise in the 68th minute via Carlton Sam. Meanwhile, the event continues today at the same venue. Abram Zuil will tackle Anns Grove at 13:00hrs, while President’s College will oppose Charlestown at 14:30hrs, and Yarrowkabra will match skills with Waramuri at 16:00hrs. The final match of the round will pit North Ruimveldt against West Ruimveldt at 17:30 hrs.

The respective winners will advance to the quarterfinal segment, which is pencilled to commence on April 20th. This will be followed by the semi-final section and the resulting final.

The winners of this year’s tournament will get $300,000, while the runners-up will pocket $150,000, and third place will settle for $75,000. On the individual side, there will be accolades for the Most Valuable Player (MVP), Highest Goal Scorer, and Best Goalkeeper.
