A 38-year-old man died after he lost control of the car he was driving, which collided with a utility pole at Number 36 Village, Corentyne Berbice.
According to a police press release, the fatal accident occurred yesterday morning at about 05:45 hrs. It involved motorcar PGG 3721 owned by Deborah Camp-bell of Lot 194 Gibraltar Corentyne, Berbice, which was being driven by Troy Trevor Elias, 38, of Lot 4 Cromarty Farm Corentyne, Berbice. With Elias, was passenger Mark Anderson, 34, of Lot 124 Mibicuri South, Black Bush Polder, Corentyne, Berbice.
According to the police, an investigation revealed Elias was driving south along the eastern lane at a fast rate when he lost control of the vehicle, which spun several times, collided with a utility pole, and came to a halt.
Elias was taken out of the vehicle in an unconscious state while Anderson was in a semi-conscious state, the release said. They were placed in a police vehicle by public-spirited citizens and taken to Skeldon Public Hospital, where they were both examined by the doctor on duty, who pronounced Elias dead on arrival.
Anderson is receiving medical attention for lacerations about his body and his condition is regarded as stable, the police said, while Elias’s body is at the hospital’s mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
