The defending champion, the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), tame Western Tigers 3-0 to maintain their perfect record in the KFC Elite League on Saturday evening at the National Training Centre in Providence.
It was the sixth consecutive win for the army outfit, while being the third defeat for the West Ruimveldt outfit, as a second-half offensive explosion sealed the victory following a scoreless first half.
Obumchi Benjamin broke the deadlock in the 50th minute, slotting home from inside the penalty area after latching onto a flicked-on pass following an initial cross into the penalty area.
The lead was doubled seven minutes later as Stephen McDonald found the back of the net, tapping home unchallenged after latching onto a squared pass from Benjamin inside the penalty area.
The result was then sealed in the 90th+2 minute as Sherwyn Caesar netted, uncorking a powerful strike from just outside the centre of the penalty area into the back of the net. The event continues tomorrow at the same venue with another round of matches.
