Waramuri, President’s College, West Ruimveldt secure quarterfinal berths

Waramuri, President’s College, West Ruimveldt, and Anns Grove will round out the final eight teams in the quarterfinal section following wins in the round of 16 segment yesterday in the Milo Secondary Schools U-18 Football Championship at the Ministry of Education (MOE) ground, Carifesta Avenue.

Waramuri mauled Yarrowkabra 10-0. Zundel Abrams recorded a helmet trick in the ninth, 24th, 26th, and 51st minutes, while Odell Holmes tallied a hat trick in the fourth, 28th, and 34th minutes. Adding one goal each were Denzil Abrams, Marcus Smith, and Rondell Peters in the 13th, 43rd, and 57th minutes, respectively.

On the other hand, West Ruimveldt bested North Ruimveldt 3-1. Elijah Sattaur bagged a second-half brace in the 63rd and 75th minutes, while Donovan Welcome netted in the 23rd. For the loser, Carlos Joseph scored in the 40th minute.

Also, President’s College squeaked past Charlestown 2-1. Shamar Barrington and Michael Antigua found the back of the net in the eighth and 66th minutes, respectively. On target in the loss was Shawn Narain in the 67th minute.

Meanwhile, Anns Grove edged Abram Zuil 5-3 on penalty kicks after full time ended 4-4. Prior to the aforesaid ending, Kennard Halley bagged a brace in the 10th and 68th minutes for Anns Grove, while Naron Jerrick and Deshawn John scored in the 18th and 56th minutes, respectively.

For the loser, the quartet of Omar Kendall, Travin Evans, Javol Spellen, and Lester Noel found the back of the net in the 12th, 31st, 57th, and 67th minutes, respectively. The quarterfinal segment is pencilled to commence on April 20th. This will be followed by the semi-final section and the resulting final.

The winners of this year’s tournament will get $300,000, while the runners-up will pocket $150,000, and third place will settle for $75,000. On the individual side, there will be accolades for the Most Valuable Player (MVP), Highest Goal Scorer, and Best Goalkeeper.
