Dear Editor,
The vending/vendors problem has raised its head once again and is in full swing with judgments obtained and notices of removal being issued. Of course the clueless ones around the horseshoe table are wringing their hands as they have no plans or solutions for immediate implementation. In the meantime vendors are left to their own devices.
Since the removal of vendors from the Muneshwers establishment there does not seem to have been a concerted, proactive approach to the problem but rather a reactive one. Imagine the vending trade is in a crisis, instead of summoning an immediate meeting to deal with it, the issue has to wait until the next statutory meeting of the council is convened. Similarly a meeting with the vendors cannot be held as there is no plan or proposal to share with them.
Don’t hold your breath for a meaningful solution any time soon on the vending problem. The council has always been part of the problem, it has not the will or foresight to be part of the solution. Of course the blame game and finger pointing will take hold.
Yours faithfully,
Shamshun Mohamed
