Led by an unbeaten century from Mavindra Dindyal, Demerara crushed defending champion Berbice by seven wickets when the Guyana Cricket Board’s (GCB) U-19 Inter-County 50-over Championship continued yesterday at the Malteenoes Sports Club, Thomas Lands.
Batting first, the Berbicians recorded 223/9 in their allotted overs. Salim Khan and Afraz Budhoo led the batting effort with 47 and 45 runs, respectively. Anthon Lim was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3-58, while Neeran Bani and Krsna Singh tallied 2-17 and 2-41, respectively.
In response, Dindyal recorded 102 to ensure Demerara successfully overhauled the target, ending on 227-3 in 35.5 overs. Supporting him with an undefeated 53 was Alvin Mohabir, while Sachin Balgobin scored 30. The two teams will contest the final tomorrow at the same venue.
Meanwhile, Essequibo thumped the Select XI by 146 runs at the Lusignan Community Centre ground, East Coast Demerara.
Batting first, Essequibo amassed 250/5, led by an unbeaten 80 from Shahid Vieira. Supporting 51 and 31 were Thaddeus Lovell and Jadon Campbell, respectively. In response, the Select XI were bundled out for 104 in 29.1 overs, as Golcharran Chulai snared 5-18. Tallying 2-39 was Mahem Khan.
The tournament is being utilised to select the Guyana team for the impending Cricket West Indies U-19 Championship in July in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
