President of Guyana and Chairman of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Irfaan Ali, has stated that the region reaffirms the importance of adherence to the principles of international law and rules of diplomatic engagement of the Geneva Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
According to a release on Tuesday from the Office of the President, the Head of State made this statement virtually from his office during an emergency meeting of the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean Countries (CELAC) to deliberate on the violation of the Geneva Convention following the assault on the Mexican Embassy in Quito by authorities of the Government of Ecuador.
