Dear Editor,
The lack of transparency around the rental of the power ship is disappointing. Based on the 2012 deal with Lebanon we can estimate the cost of Guyana’s rental at $22.5 Million in today’s dollars. Reference: (Business News.com.LB June 28, 2012). This excludes the cost of fuel. Hopefully the government was able to get a competitive deal when compared to that of Lebanon. A solar power plant would cost approximately $32 million to $36 million for the same amount of power, but it would be permanent and take time to construct. It would be better if the government was more forthcoming with their information. This is the “Information Age” and most of the data is available online.
Sincerely,
Jamil Changlee
