(Trinidad Express) DNA tests have confirmed that the body of a woman found in Arima in October is that of 23-year-old Alisha Phillip.
The DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) results were provided to relatives of Phillip yesterday.
Phillip, of Fishing Pond, Sangre Grande, was last seen on September 27, leaving her home when she told relatives she was going out and would return the next day.
She never did.
Speaking with the Express yesterday, Phillip’s mother, Savitri, described her as a loving and caring woman who lived for her four-year-old daughter.
“Everything she did was for that girl. She was working two jobs just to provide for that child and make sure that she never wanted for any¬thing. So this here is hurting us all very bad. She did not deserve this at all. She was the best mother in the world. And now this child is motherless,” Savitri said.
She said her daughter had received threats in the past; however, she was not sure if it could be linked to her killing.
“In everything she was doing, she was just trying her best. She got some threats in the past because she was a beautiful girl and very ambitious, and it was a jealousy thing with people who know her. They hated her because she was doing well and was beautiful,” she added.
She said she had not been told how Phillip had died and was securing the death certificate up to late yesterday.
However, she had been told the matter was being treated as a homicide.
She said she hoped the authorities would find those responsible for her daughter’s death.
Phillip’s decomposing body was discovered around 9 a.m. on October 2 by residents of Blanchisseuse Road, Arima, in the vicinity of Tripp Trace.
A gold chain was found near the body.
