Riddim Squad and Beterverwagting (BV)/Triumph were victorious on the opening night of the Buxton Stars Sweet 16 Knockout Football Championship on Friday evening at the Buxton Community Centre ground.
Riddim Squad brushed aside Georgetown Football Club (GFC) 3-1. Kelvin Gordon bagged a brace, while Kacy John netted once. On target in the loss was Rickford Edmonds.
On the other hand, BV/Triumph edged the Western Lions 5-4 on penalty kicks after full-time ended 1-1. Prior to the aforesaid conclusion, Roydon Chapman netted for the eventual winner, while Josiah Halley scored for the Western Lions.
The tournament will continue on Wednesday with another round of elimination matches. Pele will oppose Black Pearl at 19:00hrs, while Airy Hall will take aim at Victoria Kings at 21:00hrs.
