A 28-year-old Bartica businessman is currently in custody after ranks yesterday on duty at the Itaballi checkpoint searched his belongings along with his vehicle and found a haversack containing a firearm, 10 rounds of ammunition and 40 pills suspected to be amphetamines (ecstasy).
The police said that the businessman approached the checkpoint at about 14:35 pm on an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV). He was the sole occupant on the vehicle, registration number unknown. According to the report, the ranks requested his driver’s licence and ATV documents to which he declared that he did not have. The officers then requested a search of his belongings and vehicle to which he agreed.
During the search, a haversack was found, and upon examination, 40 pills were discovered. A further search on the ATV in his presence, unearthed a pistol branded “Springfield Armory USA,” bearing serial #US979040 on the frame, along with ten (10) 9 mm rounds of ammunition. The driver was informed of the offences committed, cautioned, and arrested. He was placed in custody, and the firearm and drugs were marked, sealed, and lodged.
