APNU is off the stage, you (PPP/C) are the performers

Dear Editor,

To the President and Vice President of Guyana, in the lobby of Wells Fargo Bank in San Francisco USA is an original Stagecoach (yes, the ones used in Western Movies), it still has four wheels after 150 years. It was used to move most of the wealth and privileges of the USA primarily from the Mid-West and the Western USA. I agree one of Burnham’s most fatal mistakes, maybe with the acquiescence of Jagan, was the decimation of our railroad (our Stagecoach) from George-town to Rosignol then Parika to Vreed-en-Hoop. However, Skeldon Estate remains one of our biggest debacles in absolute dollars. Go ahead, build the Corentyne Bridge, it may be a bridge too far as per the famous movie. Essequibo needs much more investment and defense capability.

For the record, I support no party in Guyana, but cannot ignore the daily missive of blame, blame, blame and looking in the rear-view mirror by your government. After almost 4 years in office, you own it. That is the way it works. APNU is off the stage, you (PPP/C) are the performers (Government). GPL deficiencies, GuySuCo’s underperformance, perceived corruption, sloth in our judicial system, alleged US dollar shortage, projects behind schedule, perceived inflation rate underestimation (cost of living), projects many perceive to go to family, friend, favou-rites, all are at your doorsteps. Some current issues seem self-inflicted (strikes). As we say in Guyana, you stump your toe!

Personally, I thought you were the better of the two evils in 2020 to run Guyana at this time. But I am holding my breath, not sure how long. Our government on many occasions seems to be on the back foot always explaining or trying to explain issues away. Both of you should know better – you have (Drs.) before your names. Guyanese need a daily dose of accurate timely information that informs, especially the bread-and-butter issues that affect our pocketbook (pants pocket). I would have blamed you for the Stabroek partial collapse, but I know better, after 143 years we neglected our historical Stabroek – an iconic symbol. The Stagecoach still stands.

Our government seems to take exception to any form of criticism even if it is helpful unless we are asking for something at an outreach. I want nothing. Somehow the (One Guyana) horse drawn cart or minibus seems to have lost a wheel, if not a puncture, over the past 7 months. Get it back on track! Now that many are in campaign mode, God help us since most will be on auto pilot. There should be no Schomburgk line between our government and we, the people of Guyana. Please, we want you to be successful.

Sincerely,

Everton D. Morris
