Dexter Griffith, a 54-year-old cook of Lot 40 Vive La Force, Demerara River was jailed for one ear on Monday for the possession of 199 grams of marijuana.
He appeared at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Teriq Mohamed.
The police said in a statement that Griffith was arrested on June 21, 2023 at the 70 km police checkpoint for the possession of narcotics (199 grams of marijuana).
On June 23, 2023, he appeared before Magistrate Crystal Lambert at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court and answered to the charge, ‘possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking’. He entered a not guilty plea and was granted bail in the sum of $100,000.
The matter was then set for trial on March 11, 2024, but was postponed to April 22, 2024.
