Cornelia Ida was crowned the Jits & Neelam 40-Over Cricket Champion, defeating Windsor Forest by three wickets on Sunday at the West Meten-Meer-Zorg ground.
Batting first, Windsor Forest recorded a modest 245/7 in their allotted overs. Kenzo Baksh scored the most with 52 (7x4s), while Kellon Tracy and Deoram Chanderbir were the next best scorers with 41 runs each. Adding 27 and 15, respectively, were Kishaun Tracy and Sachin Balgobin. Ushadavera Balgobin was the pick of the bowlers with 3-28 from six overs, while Thaddeus Lovell supported with 2-54 from eight overs. In response, Cornelia Ida successfully overhauled the target, finishing on 247/7 in 31.4 overs.
Ushadavera Balgobin led the way with an unbeaten 92 laced with 14 boundaries, while Shaaid Vieira supported with 52 (2x6s). Chipping in with 24 runs was Shafeek Deonarine, while Lovell and Aryan Persaud contributed 18 and 17, respectively. Sachin Balgobin was the pick of the bowlers with 2-33, while Chetram Nauth snared 2-40, and Deoram Chanderbir recorded 2-47.
With the win, Cornelia Ida pocketed $200,000 and the championship trophy, while Windsor Forest pocketed $50,000 and the runner-up accolade. On the individual side, Ushadeva Balgobin was adjudged the Man of the Match. He also pocketed the Bowler of the Tournament accolade for the most wickets, an award he shared with Lalta Suknanan.
In a similar vein, Sachin Balgobin walked away with the Best Batsman title after ending the event with the highest aggregate of 401, while Jewell McAllister copped the Best Wicketkeeper title after three centuries.
