Caribbean Junior Table Tennis Championships
Guyana recorded mixed team results on the opening day of the Caribbean Junior Table Tennis Championships in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, as the U-15 girls defeated Jamaica and the U-19 boys lost to Puerto Rico.
Guyana defeated Jamaica 3-1 to commence their campaign. Samara Sukhai lost to Jamaicaโs Keeara Whyte 10-12, 10-12, and 4-11. However, Jasmine Billingy defeated Kayan Denton 11-3, 11-8, 7-11, and 11-8 to level proceedings at 1-1.
Akira Watson bested Kira Scott 11-3, 11-2, and 11-4 to push Guyana ahead by 2-1. Billingy then overcame Whyte 11-8, 9-11, 8-11, 11-8, and 16-14 to secure the win.
Meanwhile, Guyana went down to powerhouse Puerto Rico 0-3. Despite leading 2-0, Jonathan Van Lange lost 12-10, 11-9, 6-11, 7-11, and 9-11 to Yadier Lopez. Colin Wong was then defeated 11-13, 7-11, and 6-11 by Oscar Birriel, before Krystian Sahadeo went down to Jerell Montijo 9-11, 7-11, and 5-11.
The event continues today with another round of matches.
