A Kilcoy, Corentyne fisherman is now on trial before Justice Priya Sewnarine- Beharry at the High Court in Berbice for the murder of his friend, Alexander Yhap at Kilcoy, Corentyne in 2020.
In September, 2020, Arjune Mohabir, 22, a fisherman of Lot 80 Kilcoy Squatting Area, appeared at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court before Magis-trate Peter Hugh, who read the charge which alleged that at Kilcoy Squatting Area he unlawfully killed Yhap.
Following a preliminary inquiry, Mohabir was committed to stand trial at the High Court. For the trial which continued yesterday, the state is being presented by Attorney at Law, Cicelia Corbin, while the accused is being represented by Attorney at Law, Arud Gossai.
Yhap, also known as ‘John’, 25, a fisherman, of Lot 84 Kilcoy, Corentyne, had sustained three stab injuries during the incident at a Superbet location two streets away from his house on Monday, September 14, 2020.
He was rushed to the Port Mourant Public Hospital and then to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where he later succumbed.
A post-mortem examination had revealed that the father of two died as a result of the stab wound he sustained to his chest.
