NEW YORK CITY, CMC – Jamaican jockey Romero Maragh and Guyanese trainer Naipaul Chatterpaul combined to deliver a single victory on the eight-race card on Friday at the Aqueduct racetrack in the United States.
Maragh is fifth in the jockeys’ standings and collected his seventh win of the season, which ends tomorrow, when he drove the 7-1 chance So High, owned and trainer by Chatterpaul, to a 1 1/4-lengths win in the U.S. $82 000 allowance fifth race over 1 700 metres on the turf course.
The United States-born Maragh hustled So High to the front after breaking towards the rear of the 12-horse field.
So High showed the way while well rated on the inside down the backstretch and controlled the action around the far turn. The eight-year-old, British-bred chestnut gelding responded well when asked for his best in the upper stretch and held under strong urging for a time of one minute, 41.43 seconds.
The win for So High was the first from three starters for Chatterpaul.
