The body of an unidentified man was discovered yesterday morning at Hope Beach, East Coast Demerara.
According to a police press release, at around 11 am yesterday, police received a report from a Mangrove Ranger that a human body was washed up at the beach.
A party of police, led by a sergeant, visited the scene where they found the body of a man clad in a cream and black striped jersey and cream underwear lying face up, in an advanced state of decomposition. Police also reported that the scene was processed and photographed, and the body was examined.
However, due to the advanced state of decomposition, no marks of violence could be detected. The body was taken to the Memorial Gardens Mortuary and is currently awaiting identification and a post-mortem examination.
The report further indicated that several individuals in the vicinity were questioned, but no useful information was obtained. Investigations are currently ongoing.
