An Edinburgh Village taxi driver was refused bail on Wednesday last when he appeared before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs Marcus at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court charged with possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking and pleaded guilty to the charge.
It is alleged that on April 21 2024 Eusi Wilson had in his possession 22 kilogrammes of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking. The prosecution revealed that on the day in question CANU officers acting on information received went to the location where they observed Wilson exit the car and proceed to the passenger seat. Officer Pitt approached him when it was noticed that Wilson was fixing something under the seat. Officer Pitt then disclosed to Wilson that he received information that narcotics were being transported in that vehicle, the court heard. Thereafter a search was conducted during which a bulky parcel was discovered having a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.
A further search revealed nine other parcels in clear plastic suspected to be cannabis.Wilson was told of the suspicion and arrested and taken to CANU headquarters for questioning, where he revealed that he collected the cannabis from someone at the park and was to be paid $4,000 on each parcel when it was delivered. Wilson told the magistrate that he did not know the drop-off location and was awaiting a phone call. He explained that he had no idea what the parcels contained. The magistrate asked him whether he smelled the parcels to which he responded, “madam, I can’t smell anything for three years now”. When asked whether he agreed with the statement given by the prosecutor he said yes adding that he had suspicions that it was cannabis that he was transporting.
He said that another driver had refused to take the parcels before he agreed to do so. When asked if he should be given bail by the magistrate, Wilson said that he has three daughters who are diabetic and he is the sole provider for their home.
The magistrate refused bail citing that no special reasons were given and the matter was adjourned to May 9, for a report from the probation officer.
