A file on the alleged fatal stabbing of one remand prisoner by another at the Lusignan Prison, has been prepared and sent to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for advice.
The Guyana Prison Service had stated that the incident occurred at about 14:05 hrs on March 30th. Prisoner Anthony Prince was allegedly stabbed by prisoner Shamar Davis with a piece of a mop stick in the neck. It was reported that at the time of the incident, the prisoners were making jokes about each other’s girlfriends.
Prince was attended to by the nurse on duty and was subsequently referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital for further treatment. However, at about 14.45 hrs the same day, Prince succumbed to his injury. The police were informed and an investigation was launched, the prison service said.
Davis was separated from other prisoners. The Officer-in-Charge, along with the Welfare Officer engaged the other prisoners on the matter.
Prince of Foulis, East Coast Demerara, was remanded to prison on three counts of armed robbery, and two counts of break and enter and larceny in 2018 and 2021. Davis, 23, of 56 ‘B’ Field, Sophia, was remanded to prison on a robbery charge in 2023.
