Police are investigating the murder of a 38-year-old labourer, who was stabbed multiple times on Sunday night during a scuffle at Andy’s Bar on Norton Street, Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara.
Dead is Ricardo Bayley also of Bagotstown. According to a release from the Guyana Police Force [GPF] a 28-year-old male suspect, also of Bagotstown, who was involved in the fatal scuffle with Bayley is on the run.
Inquiries revealed that around 9 pm on Sunday, the suspect along with Bayley and other persons were imbibing at the back of Andy’s Bar when an argument erupted and escalated into a fight.
It was reported that while Bayley and the suspect wrestled, the suspect drew a knife from his pants waist and stabbe the labourer multiple times and then escaped west along Norton Street.
Bayley was taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre by public-spirited citizens and pronounced dead on arrival. The body was examined, and five stab wounds were seen, one each on the left shoulder, left side of the abdomen, left hand, the right side of the lower back and the right forearm.
According to the deceased’s brother, Ashley Bayley, his brother is a frequent customer of Andy’s Bar. He told Stabroek News that based on reports he received, his brother was involved in an altercation on Sunday evening, just after 8 pm.
The body of the deceased is presently at the Memorial Gardens mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
