GCB T10 Blast
As the GCB T10 Blast continued yesterday at the Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) ground, the Essequibo Anacondas wrapped up the Demerara Hawks while the Berbice Caimans snapped up victory over their county brethren, the Berbice Piranhas.
In the first game of the day, the Hawks won the toss and sent in the Anacondas to bat. The Anacondas, despite scoring 97/8 from their 10 overs, recorded an eight-run win as Ushardeva Balgobin and Kwesi Mickle stood up for their team.
Balgobin spearheaded the Anacondas innings with 37, the eventual top scorer, as Ronaldo Alimohamed snapped up 3/21 from 2 overs, leading the Hawks to bowl.
In response, the Hawks could not take flight, losing steady wickets with only Rampertab Ramnauth making 23 from 10 balls, while Kwesi Mickle’s 2/10 (2 overs) led his side to victory.
The second game, which was an all-Berbice affair between the Caimans and Piranhas, saw the latter lose by a mere three runs.
The Caimans won the toss and batted first, plundering 110/6 off their allotted 10 overs with Devon Lord, more known for his prowess with the ball, scoring 25 from just 11 deliveries. His knock coupled with Kevin Sinclair’s 7-ball 18 took their side to their eventual total, which was more than enough in the end.
While destructive all-rounder Quentin Sampson was at his best with a 19-ball 48, which included seven sixes and a solitary four, it wasn’t enough as the Piranhas ended on 107/5 from their 10 overs to concede the loss.
Myheim Khan led the way for the Caimans with 2/14 (2 overs) and received invaluable support from Lord, who snared 2/2 from his single over.
