Buxton Stars and Mahaica Determinators stormed into the quarterfinal round when the East Coast Demerara Sweet 16 Football Championship continued at the Buxton Community Centre ground.
Buxton Stars demolished Beterverwagting (BV)/Triumph 4-0 in the feature contest of the evening.
The fixture was settled in the first half with a Teon Stewart hat-trick. The wily attacker completed his haul in the space of 17 minutes.
Stewart made his presence felt as he fashioned the opener in the ninth minute to open the proverbial floodgates. The lead was quickly doubled as Stewart completed his double in the 17th minute.
Stewart then completed his haul in the 26th minute with a strike into the far corner. The result was then sealed in the 63rd minute as Shemar Scott netted.
Meanwhile, Mahaica defeated Airy Hall 5-4 on penalty kicks after full time ended 2-2 in the earlier contest.
Prior to the aforesaid conclusion, Samuel Van Dijk gave Mahaica the first-half lead as he broke the deadlock in the 44th minute.
The lead proved short-lived as Jason Ronaldo restored parity to proceedings in the 47th minute. The score would remain unchanged heading into the extra-time interval.
Airy Hall then seized the lead in the form of Daniel Blair, who etched his name on the scorer’s sheet in the 94th minute. Nevertheless, Mahaica would equalise in the 101st minute via a Nigel Mansfield conversion.
