Despite competing in the 2022 edition, the Lady Jaguars are not slated to compete in the 2024 CONCACAF Girl’s U-15 Championship, which is slated to be hosted in Costa Rica, Trinidad and Tobago, and Aruba, according to a release from the regional confederation.
According to the correspondence, a record 35 member associations have expressed an interest in participating. However, Guyana is missing from the list of interested territories, which are: Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, Bonaire, the British Virgin Islands, Canada, the Cayman Islands, Costa Rica, Cuba, Curaçao, Dominica, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, French Guiana, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Martinique, Mexico, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands, United States, and the US Virgin Islands.
Guyana competed in the previous edition of the event, which was staged in Tampa, Florida, USA, in 2022. Guyana, which was drawn in Group E, ended with a record of one win and two losses. The Guyanese drew 2-2 with the Turks and Caicos Islands but lost 3-1 to the Cayman Islands and Nicaragua, respectively.
Efforts to contact GFF General Secretary Ian Alves proved futile. Calls to his cell phone went unanswered up to press time. The 5th edition of the competition is pencilled to be staged from August 5–11, with Costa Rica hosting League A, Trinidad and Tobago staging the B segment, and Aruba hosting the C division.
“All three leagues will include a group stage and a direct elimination knockout stage, and each will crown its champion. The number of teams per league will be determined based on the Concacaf Women’s U-17 Rankings of March 2024 and the final number of participants,”the release stated.
