The Tucber Park Housing Co-operative Society has been successfully revived following a visit by the Ministry of Labour’s Department of Co-operatives and Friendly Societies to Tucber Park, New Amsterdam, on Tuesday.
Its resuscitation is the fulfilment of a commitment made by Minister of Labour, Joseph Hamilton when he visited the society just under two months ago.
Initially, the society had been inactive since 2004, until a Steering Committee was formed in 2018 to kickstart its agenda and allow members to receive their land title or transport, a release from the Ministry of Labour said yesterday.
Its reactivation will now allow the almost 400 members of the co-operative society to be able to receive their land ownership documents.
During the follow-up visit, Chief Co-operatives Development Officer (CCDO), Janaknauth Panchu, and Regional Co-operative Officer, Jason Gladstone supervised and assisted in conducting the society’s Annual General Meeting and Elections.
As a result, a new Committee of Management was elected comprising the following members:
Norlan Hardy, Compton Grant, Sueann Hope, Olga Stephen, Jackie Ralph, Michaelle Johnson, Julian Moore, Andrae Simpson and Carmen Pluck.
A Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer/Secretary, and five committee members will now be selected.
During brief remarks, Panchu noted that “Minister [Hamilton] has committed to ensuring that every member of the Co-op receives their transport or land title, and we are very serious about honouring that commitment. We are working hard to ensure that the land ownership documents go to the rightful persons who must receive it”.
