The police yesterday said that two persons sustained burns after fire destroyed a two-storey house at Fyrish on the Corentyne.
The fire occurred at around 1.20 am. The upper flat was occupied by Jermaine Benjamin and his wife Veron De Mendonca. Andre Crandon, a labourer, occupied the lower flat. The property was owned by Benjamin.
The police said that Benjamin and his wife retired to bed and were later awakened by smoke and heat.
They both managed to jump through a window but suffered burns about their body.
Benjamin and Mendonca were taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital and they were examined by the doctor on duty and later transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital for further treatment.
