Fruta Conquerors hindered the title hopes of the third-place unit, the Guyana Police Force (GPF), as they played to a 1-1 stalemate in the KFC Elite League yesterday at the National Training Centre, Providence.

Neron Barrow had given the Lawmen the initial halftime lead in the 24th minute. However, Fruta Conquerors would earn a share of the spoils as Simeon Lovell levelled proceedings in the 70th minute.

Fruta Conquerors coach Sampson Gilbert stated during a post-match comment that the team must utilise the mental fortitude to compensate for the lack of physical strength given that it’s a young team, noting, “Tonight it showed that they have a kind of mental strength. The opponent had most of the possession, especially in the first half, but they stayed in the game and got a draw tonight, which is good.”

He further said, “The fans expect a lot from us; the thing is that Fruta is a team with a pedigree; Fruta is a team that fans expect to do well regardless of the team, the stage, or the development process. Fans expect a lot because they know we have the capacity, so we are looking forward to doing well. Initially, when we came to the league, we came to win; we don’t come to compete just for a place, and the performances got to take charge of themselves.”

“We come to do our utmost, and we will continue to do our utmost, and the fans know the capacity; the fans now have the ability, so we just have to make sure that we work to bring it home for the fans regardless of what,”  Gilbert added.

The event continues on Saturday at the same venue.
