Piranhas, Anacondas storm to comfortable wins

Berbice Piranhas and Essequibo Jaguars registered lopsided victories when the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) T10 Championship continued today at the Malteenoes Sports Club ground, Thomas Lands.

The Piranhas defeated the Essequibo Anacondas by 50 runs. Batting first after winning the toss, the Piranhas unit stormed to a mammoth 148/3. Quentin Sampson smashed his way to an unbeaten 50 [4x4s, 5x6s] in a mere 17 balls, while R. Sergeant supported with an equally brutal 46 [2x4s, 6x6s] from 21 balls. Chipping in with 23 and 15 apiece were Tagenarine Chanderpaul and R. Ivan. Bruce Vincent was the pick of the bowlers with 2-18.

In reply, the Anacondas were bundled out for 98 in 9.3 overs. Anthony Adams top-scored with 28 [3x4s, 2x6s] runs from 12 deliveries, with Raymond Perez the next best scorer with 20 runs. Adding 18 to the total was Ushardeva Balgobin. Veerasammy Permaul was the primary threat with 4-24, while Garfield Phillips was supported with 3-10. 

Meanwhile, the Essequibo Jaguars mauled the Demerara Hawks by seven wickets. Batting first, the Demerara Hawks recorded 94/8. David Williams top-scored with 42 [3x4s, 3x6s] runs from 28 deliveries. The next-best scorer with 17 runs was Ritchie Looknauth, while Neiland Cadogan and Akshaya Persaud added 13 and 11 runs, respectively. Ashmead Nedd was the primary threat with the ball, as he recorded figures of 4-6, while Nial Smith snared 2-7.

In reply, the Jaguars overhauled the score in seven overs, finishing their innings, which lasted for 44 minutes at 96/3. Mavindra Dindyal led the way with an unbeaten 36 [3x4s, 3x6s], while Kemol Savoury supported with 36 [3x4s, 2x6s] from 16 deliveries.
